Lisa Cohn is a freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Christian Science Monitor, Parenting, Mothering, Mother Earth News, Brain, Child: The Magazine For Thinking Mothers, Open Spaces, The Portland Tribune, Your Stepfamily Magazine, Big Apple Parent, The Oregonian and other publications.She writes a weekly "Stepfamily advice" column for Philly Women (www.philly.com), is the co-host of Stepfamily Talk Radio (www.stepfamilytalkradio.com) and is an expert panelist for Match.com's Happen Magazine (www.happenmagazine.com). Lisa has been quoted about divorce and stepfamilies by the Associated Press, Washington Post, Time Magazine, Christian Science Monitor, msn.com, comcast.net and by other media outlets. She has appeared on ABC Radio Network's Satellite Sisters and many nationally syndicated radio shows.
Lisa has received nine writing awards. Most recently she was a finalist in the Pacific Northwest Writers Association (PNWA) 2004 literary contest and received the 2004 Gold National Parenting Publications Award for her book. She has also received awards from Parenting Publications of America, Willamette Writers, and other groups. She lives in Portland, Oregon with her collaborator William Merkel and their four children. William Merkel, Ph.D. is a psychologist who teaches at Providence
Portland Medical Center and has a private practice. A former associate professor
at Oregon Health Sciences University, he is a Fellow in the American Academy
of Clinical Psychology and an Approved Supervisor in the American
Association For Marriage and Family Therapy. He has been teaching, training and lecturing
for more than 25 years.
