Making
the Best of a Not-So-Great Situation
Meet Jake. His parents
are divorced and both of them recently
remarried.
Now he splits his time between his mom
and stepdad’s place and his dad
and stepmom’s place.
For Jake, living in stepfamilies has its
pluses and minuses. On the
positive side, his stepdad has changed
Jake’s life and Jake’s mom’s
life
for the better. He has brought love and
a strong sense of family to their
home. He offers to help Jake if he’s
having trouble with his schoolwork.
He takes Jake to sports memorabilia shows
and fun sporting events. He
also tells Jake and Jake’s brother
that he cares about them and wants to
be a positive influence in their lives.
However, over at Jake’s dad’s
house, life isn’t so rosy. Jake
doesn’t like his bossy stepmom,
and he feels like his dad never backs
him up when his stepmom tries to tell
Jake what to do.
If you’re reading this book, your
parents are probably divorced and you’re
likely living at least parttime in a stepfamily.
